Hello Chicken Army!!

It is an egg-xcellent moment to inform you more about the progress of War for Chicken Island and it is a pleasure for us to keep you posted. This project may be delayed but we are making progress and will keep you notified along the way.

Modification for Keekmee model

We have got in touch with our Manufacturer, Panda to ask for an adjustment. Keekmee miniature will be upgraded so that it is sturdier. Below you can review the changes: 

 Custom Leaders STL

All backers at the Custom Leader pledge level (or add-on) will get a unique card with a new illustration (which we have shared in a past update). Four of them also included the option to have us sculpt and send the STL model. Since they look so awesome, we wanted to share them with you:

Chicken Meeples adjustment

We have received the pre-productions samples a couple of weeks ago, it was really exciting to take pictures of them, however, we noticed a small detail with the meeples: they cannot stand on their own. 

We requested another change to our manufacturer: the meeple will be modified with a small cut so it can stand.  Fun fact: we have a Physics engineer in the RPG team for our Eldritch Century project so, he helped us to accurately identify the gravity center of the piece to ensure the chicken would stand.

This 2D silhouette may look strange, but trust us, the 3D meeples will still look great.

Mat and Cloth Bag Samples

Last week we received the Mat and Cloth Bag Samples.

The Mat size is incorrect (it will be larger) and the colors for the dice bag were slightly changed to a more intense red for the logo. But as usual, the materials and details are great!

Print and Play files with background graphics

Only relevant for backers who included this optional buy in their Backerkit survey.

We are always hearing. Some of you let us know that you preferred the full version with background graphics instead of the version optimized for printing (white background graphics), so we just sent it. You should receive an email soon with this digital download. Since the files are somewhat large, the Scroll cards were included in a separate download. Please check your SPAM, notifications or promotions folder if you don't find them in your inbox.

Reminder: As specified in the campaign and survey, these files only include the components for the core game without any Kickstarter exclusives.

Modificación a Keekmee

Nos hemos puesto en contacto con nuestro manufacturador para solicitarle unos cambios al modelo de Keekmee y que sea más resistente.  

 Modelos de líderes personalizados

Los patrocinadores en el nivel de recompensa (o compra opcional) de líder personalizado, recibirán una carta con una ilustración única. Cuatro de ellos solicitaron el modelo también (compra opcional) y quedaron tan bien que los queremos compartir con ustedes:

Ajuste en Meeples de pollo

Hemos recibido las muestras de pre-producción hace un par de semanas, y fue muy emocionante tomar fotografías de ellas, sin embargo, nos dimos cuenta de un pequeño detalle con los meeples: es muy difícil mantenerlos en la posición y con cualquier movimiento, se caen.  

Así que los solicitamos a nuestro fabricante una modificación con un pequeño corte para que puedan mantenerse en la posición requerida. Como dato curioso: tenemos un ingeniero físico en  el equipo de otro proyecto nuestro (Eldritch Century) así que nos ayudó a identificar el centro de masa para asegurar que tuviéramos el corte correcto.

La pieza puede verse extraña en la silueta 2D pero se verá muy natural en el meeple 3D.

Mat and Cloth Bag Samples

Esta semana recibimos las muestras del tablero de neopreno y la bolsa de dados.

El tablero debe ser más grande por lo que recibiremos otra muestra y el color del logo en la bolsa debe ser de un rojo más intenso.

Corrections on digital proofs

Rulebook revision and corrections

Thanks to all backers who helped us locate some smalls issues with War for Chicken Island English Rulebook, we gave the last check and made the needed corrections. The digital proof for the files have been approved.  

Units back print

The reference cards' back print have been corrected. In addition, we identified that the chicken leaders back print doesn't need to be the same es the units so we changed it a little bit (removed the black border on them) so set up and storage is easier for you.

For backers who included this optional buy in their Backerkit survey: you should receive an email soon with this digital download.

As specified in the campaign and survey, these files only include the components for the core game without any Kickstarter exclusives. These files are optimized for printing at home and saving ink. All irrelevant background graphics have been removed.

Likewise, the rulebook back texture was removed to save ink. 

 We recommend using texturized paper for the best results!

Mysterious Fortune Eggs

For the tip jar (extra funds with no reward) we created a fun dynamic where you could allocate these for a "fortune cookie" style of proverb by Chicken leader Zen Sight with the mood for your spirit avatar (Chicken, Gnome, Dragon). This were also sent to backers who included these in their Backerkit survey.

Preproduction samples

Dice

We are delighted that you liked the dice! We think they are truly unique. We decided to go ahead with the 3rd option which was mostly an unanimous choice!

Chicken meeples, humiliation tags, resin eggs

The preproduction samples for the wooden components arrived last week, so we want to share the pictures with you.

We can tell the quality of the resin and wood is amazing. The colors however, look different in the physical samples than on the screen; we asked our manufacturer (Panda) to change them. Basically, the blue will be darker, the red brighter and the resin eggs will be yellow so that they are not confused with the white/grey player in case the resin eggs remain unpainted. 

Other than the color, the resin eggs and the humiliation tags are great! For the Chicken meeples we identified that they are not able to stand:

So, we just sent a revised file to correct this. 

Custom Leaders

Gnomosapiens have finished the STL files for the 4 Custom chicken leaders. Here's a peek at one of them:

Revisión y correcciones del Rulebook

Gracias a todos los backers que nos han ayudado a localizar los pequeños problemas en el Rulebook en Inglés de War for Chicken Island, le hemos dado un ultimo vistazo y hemos hecho las correcciones necesarias. Las pruebas digitales para los archivos han sido aprobadas.  

Unidades de impresión al reverso

Las impresiones del reverso de las cartas de referencia han sido corregidas. Adicionalmente, identificamos que la impresión al reverso de los pollos líderes no necesita ser de las mismas unidades así que los hemos cambiado un poco (removimos el borde negro de estas) así la preparación y almacenamiento es más fácil para ti.

Estatus de fulfillment de recompensas digitales

Archivos de Print & Play 

Para los backers que incluyeron esta compra opcional en su encuesta de Backerkit: deberán recibir un e-mail pronto con esta descarga digital.

Como se especificó en la campaña y encuesta, estos archivos sólo incluyen los componentes para el Core Game sin ningún Kickstarter Exclusive. Estos archivos fueron optimizados para impresión en casa y para el ahorro de tinta. Todo gráfico irrelevante ha sido removido. 

Igualmente, la textura del rulebook al reverso ha sido removida para ahorrar tinta.

 Te recomendamos usar papel texturizado para mejores resultados!

Mysterious Fortune Eggs

Para el tip jar (fondos extra sin recompensas) creamos una dinámica divertida donde puede ser asignada una "galleta de la fortuna" con el líder pollo Zen Sight con el humor para tu guía espiritual (Pollo, Gnomo, Dragon). Esto fue también enviado a los backers que incluyeron esto a la encuesta de Backerkit.

Estamos encantados que les hayan gustado los dados! Creemos que son realmente únicos. Decidimos continuar con la 3era opción, la cual, fue una decisión unánime!

Chicken meeples, tags de humillación, huevos de resina

Las pruebas de preproducción de los componentes de madera llegaron la semana pasada, así que deseamos compartir algunas imágenes contigo.

Podemos decir que la calidad de la resina y madera es impresionante. Los colores, sin embargo, se ven diferente en las muestras dísicas que en la pantalla; pedimos a nuestro manufacturador (Panda) el cambiarlos. Básicamente, el azul será más obscuro, el rojo más brillante y los huevos de resina serán amarillos así no serán confundidos con el jugador blanco/gris en caso de que los huevos de resina permanezcan sin pintar. 

Además del color, los huevos de resina y los tags de humillación son maravillosos! para los Chicken meeples identificamos que no es posible que se mantengan estables y de pie:

Así que, mandamos el archivo a revisión para corregir esto.

We are making a team commitment to post more regular updates, so you might be hearing from us more often.

Now, let's take a quick rundown through the rewards to be fulfilled and their status:

Core Game

Files sent by us (the publisher) were sent to the manufacturer (Panda GM) for them to analyze them and make sure the files follow their guidelines, making any necessary adjustments if noted. 

Once the files are approved, Panda creates digital proofs (for printed components) and component samples for us to approve. This is called the Design Verification stage and this is where we stand for the Core Game. 

Components

•  Box: print, die-cut and Spot UV digital proofs have been approved by us. The final box is huge so you can fit all the components in there (318 x 254 x 150 mm).
• Plastic insert: after having samples of all components we will design these to ensure everything fits and sorts nicely, including sleeved cards.
•  Rulebook: digital proof has been sent to us and we are giving a last check. In case you want to take a look, download the rulebook here and send any comments to [email protected] with the subject "Rulebook notes".
• Miniatures: We asked Panda to change slightly the size for some leaders and units. We are reviewing the size change and about to approve the final minis.
• Custom Dice: Panda sent us some pictures for the Dice samples (Blood & Bone). Scroll down to read all the details.
• Wooden components: The samples will be finished in September 30th and mailed to us afterwards for review.
• Punchboards: Print and die-cut digital proofs have been approved by us.
• Cards (small): Print digital proof have been approved by us. These are 44 x 67 mm.
• Cards (standard): Print digital proof was rejected because the back print for the reference card was not correct (it is a different graphic from the units' back print). Also, we noted some improvements in redaction for a couple of cards. We expect to have all of this corrected and approved this week. The size for these is Poker/Magic 63 x 88 mm.

Additional notes

• Language Versions: We are following up with our localization partners to begin translation of components. Once we have all English files approved we can move on with our localization partners who will handle the translation for them. Design Verification will be faster for translated versions.
• Retailers: We sent invoices a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for your support, we are looking to build long-lasting relationship with you. Your copies will be dispatched at the same time as any regular backer (before the game is found in regular distribution).

Kickstarter Exclusive Expansions

Almost all english files has been sent to Panda and we are expecting to begin design verification soon. Most likely after we approve all Core Game files. Design verification for these will be faster.

• Kickstarter-exclusive Stretch Goals: It is important to note that kickstarter-exclusive stretch goals will be included in a separate box. Mecha Chicken-Dragon is included inside of this box. This box also includes extra miniatures and cards as well as the 5th player components (design verification for these will be super fast). New components for which we expect to get samples are the chicken meeples, dicebag, resin eggs.
• Dragon Mamma: The 3 minis included in this set are already approved. Cards and Box design verification is pending.
• Cluckthulhu: The 80mm tall mini is already approved. Cards and Box design verification is pending. Rules sheet is still at design stage (rules have been finished by Detestable Games).
• Yolk-Sothoth: The mini is already approved. Card and Box design verification is pending.

Add-ons

We are expecting the samples for the rubber mat, sleeves and snap bases.

Digital rewards

• Artbook: This has been sent 1 week ago (check your inbox for an e-mail from Backerkit / Draco Studios or your War for Chicken Island Backerkit account). We will most likely send a revised version. If you didn't include this add-on to your pledge, we will let you know where to get it in a future update.
• Comic: Today we sent the comic in English and Spanish (check your inbox for an e-mail from Backerkit / Draco Studios or your War for Chicken Island Backerkit account). It includes a special activity in the last page. If you didn't include this add-on to your pledge, we will let you know where to get it in a future update.
• Print and Play: We are dedicating our graphic designer's time to complete anything related to production first. We expect to have these files ready soon in the coming weeks.
• STL Files: the 3D files for Cluckthulhu and Yolk-Sothoth (free for all backers) and the ones for the rest of the minis (add-on) will be sent in October.
• Mystery Fortune Egg: we will send these in the coming week.

Custom Leaders

• Card: All 9 custom leaders artwork have been finished. We will proceed to print these.
• 3D Models: the 4 custom chicken leaders which were requested to be sculpted will be finished in October. 
• Minis: we need the models first before printing the 3 custom leaders requested.

Dice

This week we received a detailed update for the Dice samples.

As you may remember, we announced that Gnomosapiens let us know about their original intention of having blood and bone dice. So we asked you if you were ok with this instead of colored dice and most of you agreed to it. We worked with Panda and saw some reference dice with the blood & bone feel on which the faces were "stained" as if it were dry blood. 

We started with the premise of having a bone color as the base and a dark red tone for the engraved symbols. The color of the stain can only be the same as the tone for the engraved icons. The density in the engraved symbols makes the color look darker. It is not possible to have different tones for the engrave and for the stain.

Some corrections were attempted but the next round showed a lot more of inconsistency. It is not possible to significantly reduce the saturation on the face of the dice while increasing the saturation of the icon image. The colors available for this type of process were fairly limited (a dark brown, a coffee color, or a black were as close as they could get).

The team tried again and they got some very cool-looking dice which we all think is as close as we can get to the realistic “blood and bone” dice. 

We are very happy with these because we believe they are unique and make honor to the theme of the game. BUT as it has always been in this campaign, we want to hear your thoughts. We know some of you will like them while some of you might not; many of you might not comment, but still, we really want to consider your thoughts towards the final decision. The last approach for us would be to have these same dice but without the stain and just choosing a brighter red tone for the engraved symbols. While that might not feel as realistic and unique, that approach could still make the dice feel as bone & blood.

Notas adicionales

• Versiones de idioma: Estamos siguiendo comunicación con nuestros socios de localización para comenzar la traducción de componentes. Una vez que tengamos todos los archivos en inglés aprobados, podemos continuar con nuestros socios de localización que se encargarán de la traducción. La verificación del diseño será más rápida para las versiones traducidas.

Dados

Esta semana recibimos una actualización detallada de las muestras de dados.

Como recordarán, anunciamos que Gnomosapiens nos hizo saber acerca de su intención original de tener dados de sangre y huesos. Entonces les preguntamos a ustedes si estaban de acuerdo con esto en lugar de dados de colores, la mayoría de ustedes estuvo de acuerdo. Trabajamos con Panda y vimos algunos dados de referencia con la sensación de sangre y huesos en la que las caras estaban "manchadas" como si fuera sangre seca.

Comenzamos con la premisa de tener un color de hueso como base y un tono rojo oscuro para los símbolos grabados. El color de la mancha solo puede ser el mismo que el tono de los iconos grabados. La densidad en los símbolos grabados hace que el color se vea más oscuro. No es posible tener diferentes tonos para el grabado y para la mancha.

Se intentaron algunas correcciones, pero la siguiente ronda mostró mayor inconsistencia. No es posible reducir significativamente la saturación en la cara de los dados mientras se aumenta la saturación de la imagen del icono. Los colores disponibles para este tipo de proceso eran bastante limitados (marrón oscuro, color café o negro).

El equipo lo intentó de nuevo y obtuvieron unos dados muy atractivos que todos creemos están lo más cerca posible de los dados realistas de "sangre y hueso".

Estamos muy contentos con estos porque creemos que son únicos y hacen honor al tema del juego. Pero como siempre en esta campaña, queremos escuchar su opinión. Sabemos que a algunos de ustedes les gustarán mientras que a otros no; muchos de ustedes no suelen comentar, pero aun así, realmente queremos considerar sus pensamientos hacia la decisión final. El último enfoque para nosotros sería tener estos mismos dados pero sin la mancha y simplemente eligiendo un tono rojo más brillante para los símbolos grabados. Si bien eso puede no parecer tan realista y único, ese enfoque aún podría hacer que los dados se sientan como huesos y sangre.

Metal Soldier fix + Artbook and Retail Invoices sent

Hello Chicken Army!

We’ve been in touch with Panda to fix some details, we all want this game to already arrive but we prioritize quality. 

• The wooden components preproduction samples will arrive in the coming weeks. The same is true for the resin proofs (egg shields). 
• We made some fixes on the Spot UV for the box and it is now approved.
• Almost all print files for the English core game have been approved except for the cards (reference cards had an incorrect file in the back print). The files approved include Box, Rulebook and Punchboards.
• For the miniatures we slightly changed the sizes for some models to make them have more sense from a relative point of view according to each unit type. For example, the stone golem will be slightly bigger while stone soldier will be smaller. One of the major changes was that the metal soldier didn't have a chicken mounted on top, so we worked with Gnomosapiens and Panda to correct this.  

Secondary rewards status

Last time we shared the custom leaders but we were missing a last one based on Amelia Earhart. We are working with the backers at the Custom Leader level to finalize this.

Sent Add-on: Artbook (PDF) 

Today we distributed the digital artbooks to backers who included them as an add-on. We hope you enjoy it! If you didn't added that to your order stay tuned for the next update to know more where to get it.

Pending Add-on: Comic Strip (PDF) +  special activity

We are now adding one last page including the details for the special activity we promised for the Comic Strip. In the Comic, you will find two new creatures types in addition to the chickens. After Dodos Riding Dinos, we will publish another game in collaboration with Gnomosapiens and Detestable Games including these creatures. We are seeking a new name for this game so after reading the comic (and the last page with more details about the game) send your best suggestions to [email protected] for a chance to win a preproduction review copy in 2020.

Add-on: Print & Play + STL files

After the Comic strip, we will be sending the Print and Play files and STL files if you added this to your order. For the STL files we are waiting for Panda to send us back the modified ones with fixes.

Retailers Invoices

We've finally sent the invoices for our retailers in which we include some information about how they’d receive their miniatures.

The miniatures will be included inside of the Core Game, which means the retailer's free demo will include them. This also makes the box larger than before, so War for Chicken Island will stand out at your shelf even more.

The Mecha Chicken Dragon will be inside of the Kickstarter Exclusive Components Box. 

 Special sneak peek for Dodos Riding Dinos

While the Draco team is working with Panda for the rewards of War for Chicken Island, our friends from Gnomosapiens have started in the character exploration stage for Dodos Riding Dinos (which will launch on Kickstarter AFTER fulfillment for War for Chicken Island starts).

Shout to Gnomosapiens

We usually don't post about projects which are not developed by Draco Studios but since Gnomosapiens is part of War for Chicken Island and they didn't reach their funding goal during the first time (and we can relate to what it is like to re-launch) we just wanted to share about their latest project on Kickstarter. A fun and original game which merges the most iconic cards in modern gaming: Card Game the Card Game. Check it out here. While we are not running that campaign or developing Card Game the Card Game, we want to see them to succeed and wish Gnomosapiens the best of luck with it.

During next update we expect to have some preproduction samples pictures to share, and more digital rewards already fulfilled. We are making progress. Thanks everyone for your patience and support!

Hemos estado en contacto con Panda para arreglar algunos detalles, todos queremos que este juego ya llegue y los tengan en sus manos, pero priorizamos la calidad.

• Las muestras de preproducción para los componentes de madera llegarán en las próximas semanas al igual que las de resina (los escudos en forma de huevo).
• Hicimos algunas correcciones en barniz a registro (Spot UV) para la caja y el archivo ya está aprobado.
• Casi todos los archivos de impresión para el juego principal en inglés han sido aprobados, excepto las tarjetas (las tarjetas de referencia tenían un archivo incorrecto en la impresión posterior). Los archivos aprobados incluyen la caja, instructivo y planchas de cartón.
• Para las miniaturas, cambiamos ligeramente los tamaños de algunos modelos para que tengan más sentido desde un punto de vista relativo de acuerdo con cada tipo de unidad. Por ejemplo, el gólem de piedra será un poco más grande, mientras que el soldado de piedra será más pequeño. Uno de los principales cambios fue que el soldado de metal no tenía un pollo pilotando en la parte superior, por lo que trabajamos con Gnomosapiens y Panda para corregir esto.

Hello Chicken Army!

Today we have many things to share with you, but first we would like to start sharing a little bit of our Gen Con 2019 experience: 

It was truly awesome to meet a lot of you, our chicken army backers. Just as in UKGE, we brought "Platanito" to Gen Con and here are the pictures: 

 And if you think the miniatures look very good in the video from the past update, wait to see them in person! Many backers and non-backers praised the miniatures quality and detail at Gen Con.

Survey status

Later today we will be locking and charging the latest answered surveys and pre-orders. You might get an e-mail notification from Backerkit, Stripe or Draco Studios regarding a charge for your add-ons, shipping fees or preorders. This applies only to the new surveys answered since March; so don't worry if you have already been charged, you will not be charged again. 

If your payment is not successful or was not successful in March, please go to your survey and try fixing your payment via PayPal.

If you haven't answered your survey or fixed your payment, we will contact you via e-mail to figure out the next steps. Backers with dropped pledges on Kickstarter who have not attempted to answer their survey and fix their payment might end with a cancelled order.

Digital rewards

Fulfillment for digital rewards have started. You will receive an e-mail from Backerkit with a personal download link.

We are starting with the Comic Strip (add-on), Artbook (add-on), and with the Mystery Fortune Egg (add-on). Then, in September, with the Print and Play PDF (Add-on) and finally with the Cluckthulhu (all backers) and Yolk-Sothoth (all backers) 3D STL files and PDF print via DriveThruRPG.

Backers with the Comic Strip will be part of a small activity in the next campaign.

If you didn't added any of these add-on items to your pledge and you still want to get them, you will be able to do so next month. We will let you know how in a future update.

Retailer invoices

All invoices for retailers will be sent within this week via e-mail. Itzel, our community manager, will be in touch with each one of you.

New RPG Campaign

As you may know, Draco Studios first project was Eldritch Century. This is a passion project on which we have placed our hearts and now that the Eldritch Century miniatures campaign is fulfilled, the part of the team developing Eldritch Century is working to create the RPG Corebook of this alternate-Earth where Europe was consumed by the Miasma after WW1, a fog that corrupts everything on its wake and has led the six most powerful factions of the world to the coldest of wars. 

Even though Eldritch Century is very different than War for Chicken Island, if you enjoy RPGs, or settings with mystery and horror, please check it out and help us make the strongest launch possible! We love offering Loyalty rewards for our returning backers, all our Chicken Army backers from this campaign pledging for the digital or physical Eldritch Century Corebook will get a physical postal from Cluckthulhu (very Eldritch-esque) and a $5 shipping discount for the physical corebook (Redeemed at the pledge manager).

 As for the progress of this project, don't worry, at this stage now that the game and files are ready for manufacture, the members from Draco Studios working on War for Chicken Island and Dodos Riding Dinos is not very involved in the campaign phase for Eldritch Century.

 Y si crees que las miniaturas se ven muy bien en el video de la última actualización, ¡espera a verlas en persona! En Gen Con, muchos patrocinadores y no patrocinadores elogiaron la calidad del material y los detalles de las miniaturas.

Fomularios de Backerkit

Más tarde hoy estaremos bloqueando y cargando las últimas encuestas respondidas y pre-órdenes. Es posible que recibas una notificación por correo electrónico de Backerkit, Stripe o Draco Studios con respecto a un cargo por sus compras opcionales, tarifas de envío o pedidos anticipados. Esto aplica sólo a las nuevas encuestas respondidas desde marzo; así que no te preocupes si tu tarjeta ya ha sido cobrada, no se te cobrará nuevamente.

Nueva campaña de rol

Como sabrán, el primer proyecto de Draco Studios fue Eldritch Century. Este es un proyecto apasionante en el que hemos puesto nuestros corazones y ahora que se completó la campaña de miniaturas de Eldritch Century, la parte del equipo que desarrolla Eldritch Century está trabajando para crear el libro de rol de esta Tierra alternativa donde Europa fue consumida por el Miasma después de la Primera Guerra Mundial, una niebla que corrompe todo a su paso y ha llevado a las seis facciones más poderosas del mundo a la guerra más fría de todas.

A pesar de que Eldritch Century es muy diferente a War for Chicken Island, si disfrutas de los juegos de rol, o los escenarios con misterio y horror, ¡échale un vistazo y ayúdanos a hacer el lanzamiento más fuerte posible!
